Epidemiology

Epidemiologists in local public health are responsible for monitoring and preventing infectious disease within the culturally and linguistically diverse communities they serve. They are mindful of the health beliefs and practices, preferred languages, health literacy, and other communication needs of our diverse communities in order to protect everyone in the Commonwealth from infectious disease. Epidemiologists use their expertise in data analysis to quickly identify, isolate, and communicate about evolving infectious threats with impacted populations.

Skills, Education, and Experience

Typically, epidemiologists are hired after completing related coursework from dedicated programs at schools of public health. Candidates also gain important practical experience by participating in local or state health internship programs.
