$60,000 - $75,000 (FT position); Hours and salary will be adjusted for a part-time position accordingly
Summary of Position Responsibilities
Applications are being accepted for a full-time and/ part-time Substance Use Prevention Coordinator within the department of Public Health. This individual will be responsible for planning, managing and coordinating a broad range of youth substance use prevention programs.
Essential Functions
- Oversee, coordinate, and implement all substance use prevention initiatives within the Town under the guidance of the Health Director and Town manager.
- Develop and carry out strategic plans to inform and direct substance misuse prevention work.
- Develop methods to collect, organize, interpret, and summarize data to provide usable information to develop strategies and policies.
- Establish and maintain strong community partnerships with various organizations and groups within the Town of Saugus. This will include, but is not limited to, maintaining an up-to-date list of resources for individuals and caregivers.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in public health, social work, or human services and two to three years’ experience working in the field of mental health specifically substance abuse prevention services, harm reduction, and recovery, or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Professional background in substance abuse prevention and or/mental health services preferred; Ability to manage relationships both internally and externally and Proficient with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Valid MA driver’s license
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
Knowledge
Knowledge of federal, state, and local public health regulations; working knowledge of public health issues and prevention programs, specifically experience in harm reduction strategies and substance misuse.
Abilities
Ability to work independently; ability to evaluate and monitor community and environmental health projects. Bi-lingual or multilingual ability in Spanish, Portuguese, and/or Haitian-Creole is preferred. Must be able to travel to multiple locations.
Skills
Excellent organizational skills; excellent data processing skill in the use of office software including word processing, data base and spreadsheet applications; excellent public speaking skills, planning and organizational skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications.
