The Town of Longmeadow is seeking a FT Public Health Director. Under general direction of the Town Manager, this position is the chief advocate for the health of Longmeadow, and communities comprising the Eastern Hampden Shared Public Health Services (EHSPHS), residents and visitors, and performs highly responsible and complex administrative, technical, educational, and inspection work in planning and managing the EHSPHS, including budget development and management.
Successful candidate must have:
- Working knowledge of state sanitary codes, including food sanitation, sub surface sewage, and all other Commonwealth Health and Environmental laws and codes. Knowledge of engineering concepts in relation to wastewater. Knowledge of related federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations.
- Ability to conduct field inspections. Ability to use with proficiency Microsoft office or other word processing programs and relevant computer programs. Ability to manage and supervise employees effectively. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to maintain good public relations and effective collaborative working relationships with Town departments, department heads, fellow employees, officials, and the general public. Ability to meet deadlines. Ability to work independently and exercise independent judgment. Ability to learn new software as needed.
- Proven interpersonal skills, customer service skills and problem resolution skills. Must possess organizational skills and be detail oriented. Proficient in use of computer programs including Microsoft Office and Google Suites, email, and internet.
Experience
Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Environmental Science or related field, and 5 to 7 years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, certification, and experience.
Must be a registered sanitarian, certified professional septic system inspector, soil evaluator, MAVEN certified, and must possess a valid driver’s license.
Certified pool operator, SERV Safe, allergy awareness, lead determinator, MA PHIT housing inspector, ICS 100, ICS 200, and NIMS 700 certification are all strongly preferred.
